PASTOR BOB BARNETT became Pastor of Faith Community Church of Martha’s Vineyard in July 2013. He came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1980 through the witness of his wife and after serving as US Army officer and paratrooper, and as a product release manager in the software development industry, was called to pastoral ministry as second career.
Bob is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe in (1978) and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (1999, 2002), and is pursuing a doctorate in biblical counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He is ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) and has served in ministry positions with the Navigators (part-time, 1987-94), the Mockler Center for Faith and Ethics in the Workplace (2000-04) , and churches in Ipswich, MA (2004-05), Alexandria, VA (2005-12) and Baltimore, MD (interim pulpit supply, 2012).
Bob and his wife Theresa were married in 1978. They are the parents of three grown daughters: Lisa Barnett Wise, Jennifer Barnett Polen, and Krista Barnett, and grandparents of Henry Polen and Orion Wise. Bob enjoys hiking and camping, visiting historical places with Theresa, reading biographies, history and historical fiction, and watching good movies (with pizza).
BOB NUTE has served as an Elder at FaithMV for over seven years during his 13 years of membership of Faith MV. He also served as Pastoral Search Chair on two separate occasions. Bob retired after 30+ years as music instructor and Chairman of the Music Department of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. He also was the most successful coach of the MVRHS girls’ basketball team and led them to several championship seasons.
MIKE PERKALIS grew up in New Jersey as the youngest of 12 children. He studied business at the County College of Morris before joining the United States Air Force. He served for 7 years in Vietnam, Guam, Greenland, Langley Air Force Base, and other stateside bases, settling on the Vineyard in 1987. He is the Grocery Manager at Reliable Market, a family-owned grocery store in Oak Bluffs.
Mikes likes all sports and loves listening to games on the radio. Baseball is his passion—he can give you statistics all the way back to the 1800s. Despite living near Boston, the New York Yankees are still his favorite team. One of Mike’s other hobbies is reading—history, non-fiction and anything he can get his hands on. He is often reading three books at once, as well as rereading his favorites. Mike is married to Bonnie, a kitchen designer and the Church Treasurer. They have two grown daughters and four grandchildren.
